Code for All hosted the inaugural event of The SDGs <> Civic Tech Webinar Series which aims to bring together bright minds within the Code for All Network and International Organizations to introduce the relationship between civic tech and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, foster learning, and spark conversations that matter on the topic.

Forging Friendship: Civic Tech <> SDGs event entailed how SDGs and Civic Tech goals align and how we can achieve these goals.

Moderating the discussion was Sofía Corona (CfAll). The panelists included:

  • Sheba Najmi, Founder and Executive Director, Code for Pakistan
  • Alma Rangel, Executive Director, Codeando México
  • Davis Adieno, Director of Programs, Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data
  • Khairil Yusof, Coordinator & Co-founder, Sinar Project

“Collaboration is the key between the creators & users of solutions, government & citizens, amongst civil society organizations to achieve SDGs” ~ Sheba Najmi

She also highlighted the work of Code for Pakistan as an enabler in community building specially on SDGs. For the past seven years, CfP has been conducting civic hackathons on the theme of SDGs, where citizens come up with ideas and solutions for our most urgent issues of their communities.

“We are at a point, where the problems we are trying to tackle can’t be done in isolation, governments, citizens, NGOs can’t do it alone. We need to build communities to collaborate” ~ Alma Rangel, Executive Director, Codeando México.

“Tech needs people. And people need tech. There is interdependence. People need data to make informed decisions. People need partnerships to work together and works towards a common goal.” ~ Davis Adieno, Director of Programs, Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data.

“When we work with communities, we start understanding gaps and nuisances of on ground realities. We can use these data points to make the standardize data to make the processes more inclusive” ~ Khairil Yusof, Coordinator & Co-founder, Sinar Project.
